OBEX

OBject EXchange

A pseudo-profile within the Bluetooth specification that enables a Bluetooth device to send and receive an object (file) with another Bluetooth device.

Examples include sending a photo from a phone to a another phone, sending a ringtone from a PC to a phone, or sending a document from a phone to a handheld.

OBEX is an umbrella profile that contains more specific profiles. These include OPP for pushing a file from one device to another, and FTP, for more advanced, interactive file browsing and transfer.
